Strengths Finder Assesment reflection

According to the Clifton Strengths Finder assessment, my top five strengths in order of significance are:

Ideation: A fascination with ideas and looking at things from different perspectives.

Futuristic: Derives inspiration and energy from thinking about the future.

Input: Inquisitive and enjoys the collection of information from various sources.

Responsibility: Tendency to take psychological ownership of anything one commits to.

Intellection: The enjoyment of thinking, mental activity, reflection, and introspection.

The definitions I’ve written next to each of these traits are highly simplified summarizations of the trait descriptions but they more or less cover the most important point. I think that as someone who spends a lot of time creating things or thinking about creating things, these traits are a fairly accurate way of characterizing my strengths.

When I initially looked at my results for the test, initially the “Futuristic” trait really interested me because I hadn’t heard of that trait before. To give a more detailed description of this trait here are some quotes from the official Gallup report: “Take time to envision the future. Anticipate and imagine what could and should be.” “People with strong Futuristic talents love to peer over the horizon. They are fascinated by the future. They anticipate and imagine in detail what tomorrow could or should be. They usually see the future positively. While the details of the picture will depend on their other strengths and interests — a better product, a better team, a better life, or a better world — it will always be inspirational to them. This vision energizes themselves and others. They can paint a picture of the future that raises the sights and spirits of others.” I generally try not to take personality tests too seriously but I this particular trait is pretty accurate for me. I can spend hours getting lost in my thoughts about what I want to do in the future, the kind of films I want to make, stories I want to write, places I want to travel to, etc. If I’m being totally honest, there are a lot of times where I think that being an English major and a Film Studies isn’t worth it and I don’t want to even be in school at all, but when I think about all of the things I want to accomplish it helps me push through my doubts and negative feelings and motivates me to keep working hard.

  1. I really like your take on the Gallup Strengths, and I have the same issues with choosing my major and whether college is worth it. We all have to get through and then hopefully life and careers will be better off for it. You’re right we will all be able to accomplish things and learn different subjects that we didn’t know about in college and have to push through it all. Keep pushing through those negative feelings! You got this and school can be worth it.
