Mini Review: Aggretsuko

Hello Hello! I’m back from a brief break since the school year has now ended, and I’m ready to get a little experimental with the format of some of my posts! This one is extra special because it’s the first television show I’ve reviewed and it’s also the first mini review! To explain very briefly, my goal with the mini-reviews is to very quickly give my thoughts and a recommendation on a piece of media (tv shows, movies, books, etc) that I have watched. “That sounds a lot like the other reviews, what makes these different?” that’s what you’re wondering right? I’m glad you’ve asked! Since these are mini reviews they will be 200 words or less so readers don’t have to devote as much time to trying to find out if something is worth a watch or not.

The Netflix original Aggretsuko is an anime that follows Retsuko, a 25-year-old Red Panda who works as an accountant at a trading firm in Japan. The show follows Retsuko as she deals with pretty terrible and sexist boss at a job she hates, makes new friendships, and tries to make sense of her love life. Oh, and her coping mechanism of choice? Heavy Metal Karaoke of course! Aggretsuko is filled with zany yet recognizable and relatable characters in equally relatable and mundane workplace scenarios. The show’s spirit is sweet and well-intentioned and it makes for a great light-hearted and enjoyable watch.
