If you’ve been waiting for a more lighthearted recommendation, this week is your week! Adapted from a stage show of the same name, the Mortified Podcast is unlike anything else you’ve heard. The concept is quite simple, people read from their childhood diaries and journals and it’s… well, it’s mortifying! If you thought you were a weird or awkward kid (doesn’t everyone think that?), these guys are on some next level sh*t.
I personally thought I had some embarrassing experiences, but listening to the stories of the performers makes me feel waaaaaay better about the questionable actions of middle-school-me. Some of the more noteworthy episodes include Episode 27: Brooke: I was a teenage prison wife, Episode 15: Tynan: Peace! One Luv!, and Episode 14: Jenny: Is my boyfriend Gay?
If the titles alone haven’t convinced you that this show is at least worth a try, I don’t know what will. Every episode is pretty good, but one of my personal favorites is Episode 25: Ashley: Why I Hate the SATs. While I listened to this episode I gasped, I awwed, and I laughed so hard, rivers of tears streamed down my cheeks (so do keep in mind that listening to this in public will make everyone think you’re a lunatic, but it’s so worth it!).
Honestly, if you only ever listen to one podcast I recommend (which would be tragic, but you do you) do yourself a favor and make it this one, you won’t regret it. Happy Listening!
