I know I know. I’ve skipped a few weeks of recommendations, and I am very deeply apologetic. But if it makes any difference I did spend a lot of time thinking about the recommendation I wanted to post. But enough beating around the bush, here’s this weeks podcast: There Goes The Neighborhood!
There Goes the Neighborhood is a fantastic podcast from WNYC studios (they produce a number of rather high-quality shows), that discusses the not-at-all divisive topic of gentrification in the US. The podcast doesn’t take a firm stance for or against gentrification and instead, they spend a lot of time interviewing people from both sides of the debate and with each episode, they highlight different aspects of gentrification using stories of the people who are affected by it. Gentrification in large cities is a growing occurrence and is the source of lots of discussion so it’s especially important to have at least a small amount of knowledge on the topic since it affects millions of people in the US alone.
Before listening to this podcast I didn’t have enough information to have any kind of opinion about gentrification, but this show does an excellent job of providing listeners with the facts and the feelings that lie within this huge debate. There Goes the Neighborhood is as informational as it is compelling and leave listeners with a lot to think about with each episode.
Thus far there are two seasons of the podcast, the first focuses on gentrification in New York and the second (which I enjoyed a bit better than the first season) is about gentrification in Los Angeles. For introductory purposes, I’m providing a link to the very first episode of the first season of the show, thanks for reading and Happy Listening!
